The Pueblo
San Pancho is a small traditional beach town located on Mexico's West coast thirty miles North of Puerto Vallarta. It has a population of 1000 people. The surrounding jungle is home to iguanas, mongoose, armadillos, and the jaguar. In the sea, local fishermen bring in red snapper (huachinango), Mahi or Dorado, oysters, and lobsters daily. If you watch the sea long enough you’ll surely see whales, dolphins and sometimes manta rays. It is a mix of new and old with horseback as a mode of transportation. The natural beauty and slow pace of San Pancho truly makes it a great place to get away for peace and relaxation.

Activity seekers will find plenty to keep them busy, including: hiking, jungle walks or coastal walks, surfing, swimming, fishing, horseback riding, polo games, whale watching, kayaking adventures, birding, day trips to Isla Marietta, yoga classes, dance classes, and art classes for kids. Come out and play!

Beaches

The beach is only three blocks from the Hotel Cielo Rojo. Great for swimming, surfing or boogie boarding, or for a leisurely walk in the sand to enjoy the serene beauty and fresh ocean air. San Pancho is the best beach for the most beautiful and dramatic sunsets… hence the name of the hotel (well, one reason) it means “red sky.” It is a very popular spot for surfers, local and international. There are many other beaches nearby to discover up and down the coast:

Las Cuevas - a tiny horseshoe-shaped beach surrounded by rocky cliffs. Not easy to find, you have to trek through a treacherous rock path to get there. Those who are up for the adventure will discover a romantic lovers point.

Playa de Los Muertos - this is a very safe swimming beach that is popular with local families.

Directions
Hotel Cielo Rojo can make arrangements for pickup from the airport directly to Hotel Cielo Rojo. The ride along the coast is about 30 minutes long. Taxi service from the Puerto Vallarta airport costs around $50 to $80 dollars.

Public transportation by bus costs about $5 dollars. The bus makes one or two stops before San Pancho and the ride is approx. 40 minutes long.

Getting to San Pancho by car from Puerto Vallarta:

The Puerto Vallarta International Airport is 25 miles (40 kilometers) from Hotel Cielo Rojo.

Upon exiting the airport you have to make a right turn BUT you MUST immediately get into the left hand lane in order to be able to effectively do a U turn so as to be traveling North on Hwy 200 (towards Tepic).

After approx 35 kilometers on the coastal highway you will see the San Francisco (San Pancho) town entrance on the left.

To turn left and enter the town pull off to the right shoulder and wait until it is clear on both sides before turning left -- in Mexico a blinking left turn signal on the highway means "It's OK to pass."

The Hotel Cielo Rojo is located at Calle Asia #6. Follow the signs on the street corners.
